"Tight Fit" -
The Interstate heritage locomotive makes a bright statement as a heavy spring storm has diminished last light of the day along the Clinch Valley. Having just left Alpha Natural Resources Tom's Creek Facility north of Coeburn with 105 loads bound for Lambert's Point, NS 772 exits the east portal of Little Bull Tunnel seconds before entering the longer Big Bull Tunnel near St. Paul, VA. Completed in 1905, Little Bull Tunnel is the third of five close-clearance, restricted speed tunnels between Coeburn and St. Paul, VA moving east along the former N&W Lower Clinch Valley District of the Pocahontas Division. Built to move coal from the coalfields of Wise County, the line holds true to its original design today as a coal-haul-only road.
Not
