In the background, rising 9,822 ft (2,994 m) above the surrounding terrain, is 14,179 feet (4,322 m) Mount Shasta, a potentially active volcano located at the southern end of the Cascade Range. It is the second highest peak in the Cascades and the fifth highest in California.
