In 1976, the NJDOT became the operator for the New York and Long Branch commuter lines and thankfully repainted the E-Unit fleet from PC Black into a traditional blue paint scheme. In 1979, NJ Transit became the entity responsible for running these trains and chose the modern design on E8 4323. The white base was changed to silver, probably, I suspect due to the fact that dirt and grime quickly dominated the white paint.
