East Washington St., Brandon, WI. Slowing to yard speed as she enters Brandon, SOO 1003 passes a team of Engineers from the Maintenance of Way Department, who are surveying in advance of some changes to a siding at a local mill. Note the little red Velocipede track vehicle on the right. It's a sort of rail-borne tricycle that was used by MOW personnel back in the day to move between job sites. Instead of pedaling it, the crewmember would move the handlebars fore and aft, in a motion similar to rowing a boat. The velocipede could carry small, personal equipment, making it ideal for operations like the one you see here. This particular little critter is operable, and is owned by one of the 1003 crewmembers.
