A Chicago & North Western SD40R is pictured having been serviced, awaiting an assignment at Provo Yard on Aug. 20, 1995. The CNW 6564 was built Penn Central SD45 No. 6237 in August 1968. It would later be renumbered Conrail 6237. By January 1984 it was purchased by the Chicago & North Western Railroad becoming the CNW 6564. By January 1986 it was rebuilt by CNW as an SD40R with a 16-cylinder, 3000 HP prime mover. By 1997, after the UP merger, it was sold to Cherokee Rail Systems in Brentwood, Tennesee. The unit was sold to National Railway Equipment and ran in their national lease fleet as NREX 6564. Today it can be found in a striking red while and black paint scheme working on the Tacoma (Washington) Municipal Belt Line Railroad as TMBL 3001.
