GN 581 had yet to be renumbered when this cab-side shot was taken six months into the BN merger. However, some one, most likely a BN locomotive maintenance crew had removed the bolted on GN logo, a normal part of the renumbering process on BN. What they apparently did not expect to find was another, older logo adhered to the cab, with tell tale evidence of the original color scheme. GN 581 obviously enjoyed two versions of orange and green before getting a Cascade green paint job by BN. It avoided Big Sky Blue.
