Remarks & Notes |
Two GN SD7s go about switching ore cars that Allouez Yard on Superior, WI's east end. The large yard handled ore classification for transfer to the GN ore docks, known as the world's largest. The cars shown here are handling raw iron ore, which was still an important portion of total handlings in 1973. To the right out of view is a newer loop that handles taconite pellets. That became the dominant percentage of ore traffic and was handled to the dock pockets via conveyor belt rather than by train. |
