Fall color along the Powder River. A westbound Sumpter Valley mixed train runs just above the placid Powder River on a cool fall afternoon.
Although the present-day Sumpter Valley Railroad runs through the Powder River Valley for all of its 5-mile route, there's really only a short stretch where there's anything that looks like a river alongside the tracks....and this is that spot. With a smaller, Sunday afternoon crowd on the Fall Photo Train, we had an opportunity to shoot some of the seldom-photographed locations on the line, where only a few people can fit. I continue to be amazed at the variety of photo locations that can exist on a 5 mile stretch of track. After spending a total of 12 days here in the past 3 years, I still don't believe I've seen everything this line has to offer.
