Remarks & Notes
The last Sunday of Tanfield Railway's month of freight and it's Coal Train Day. Carrying coal is what the line was built for and it used steam haulage on the fairly level parts of the track and rope haulage for the steeper inclines heading down to the River Tyne. Twice a year the coal hoppers are brought into use and today they were puled by 0-4-0 saddletank locomotive No 2. Seen here close to the infamous Causey Arch car park.
