On Conrail’s siding at Streator, Illinois, two trains meet in April 1984. Streator was an important interchange location between Santa Fe and Conrail (New York Central/Penn Central earlier) with run-through trains operating after a connecting track on the south side of town was constructed by 1968. Conrail power and cabooses could be seen on the Santa Fe, as well as the Santa Fe’s equipment on Conrail, as seen here. A westbound train with Santa Fe caboose 999250 is meeting an eastbound led by GP39-2 No. 3695 at a clearance point named “MISS” on Conrail east of the connection.
