Farewell Catskill Mountain Railroad Extra #401 East, the final Kingston Limited Train has just arrived back at Westbrook Station in Kingston, New York, marking the end of 146 years of history brought to Ulster County and the Catskill Mountains, first by the Ulster & Delaware Railroad and the New York Central System, then by the Catskill Mountain Railroad. The Engineer climbs down the steps of Catskill Mountain Railroad #401, an ex-Green Mountain ALCO RS-1, as passengers and crew disembark the train. The Catskill Mountain Railroad has been fighting a battle with the County of Ulster and has seemed to have lost. Instead of rail service, the County is in favor of replacing the CMRR with a paved walking path. Though there is hope for the railroad, there is a possibility that it may be able to get another five-year lease with the county, and will hopefully be able to continue operating for at least the following five years.
