Scaling the side of the cliff next to South Boulder Creek a BNSF manifest climbs the 2% grade. The river is dropping much faster than the railroad as the white water below can attest. The left side of the canyon once had a large elaborate water flume. Much of the flume was carried on a huge wooden trestle, most traces of this flume have disappeared... This location is also the site of a tragic wreck on the D&RGW railroad. A plaque can be seen hanging on the portal of Tunnel 26 remembering the Grand Junction crew that was killed after hitting a rock slide at this spot September 30, 1991... The area is now covered in slide fences to prevent a incident such as that from happening again.
