After serving the MBTA for over a year and Cape Cod for just under a year, it is time these screamers go elsewhere. In March of 2015, the MBTA leased 7 F40PHRs from Rail World Locomotive Leasing, and they arrived in April. Due to the lack of cab signals, these units only served on commuter trains out of North Station in Boston. These units were sent occasionally to Rochester, MA (on the Mass Coastal RR) for repairs. In August, engine 274 was sent to Hyannis to run tourist trains on the Cape Cod Central. Later, 274 returned to Rochester and 302 stepped in. Fast-forward to July 2016, where the MBTA is ready to send these units packing. Here, we see the 7 F40PHRs being backed into the CSX Middleboro yard by Mass Coastal 2008. Once these units are inspected by CSX, they will begin their journey on the road. Rumor has it they are destined for California. The units are numbered as 274, 293, 301, 302, 310, 330, and 418.
