Three Rio Grande GP30s rest silently at the OmniTRAX facilities at Loveland, Colorado, on November 27, 2001. D&RGW Nos. 3026, 3011 and 3028 where on the property, and we were there to pick one out for the Colorado Railroad Museum through a gracious OmniTRAX donation. All were in very rough shape after some long-term storage in Kansas, but the decision was finally made to save No. 3011, as it was from Rio Grande’s first order and seemed to be the most “complete” of the three. Today, No. 3011 sits outside the roundhouse at CRM in Golden, waiting for that hopeful restoration. Nos. 3026, and 3028 were not so lucky and eventually scrapped.
