With Grinnell Glacier in the distance, the sun sets on a railroad of sorts along the shores of Swiftcurrent Lake near Many Glacier Lodge in Glacier National Park. These rails are used twice a year to transport the "Chief Two Guns" boat into and out of the lake for storage and repair. My dad suggested that it wasn't a railroad in the strictest terms because they probably just used the rails to slide the boat along, so I asked one of the boat captains. He said there's a special cradle on wheels that the boat rides on, pulled by a winch inside the boathouse. In my estimation, then, this is a heretofore unremarked funicular railway in Glacier National Park! And no, I don't expect all of you to buy that. :) It was still interesting to see steel rails tied together by pieces of wood where I didn't expect to find them.
