Pictured is a funeral train of sorts, taken in Salt Lake City on Nov. 6, 1999. Twelve locomotives, retired from Union Pacific's active roster are pictured on a light engine move to Boise, Idaho. With two road engines in the lead (Rio Grande GP40-2 No. 3127 and UP (ex-CNW) GP50 No. 5541) the lash up includes one EMD SD39, three GE C30-7s, one EMD GP30, and seven EMD SD45s, all headed to Morrison Knudsen for rebuilding into MPI lease units. Southern Pacific SD39 No. 5316 was built by EMD in October 1968. The oldest unit of the bunch is Rio Grande GP30 No. 3015, built in Feb. 1963 and retired buy UP on May 31, 1999. Sadly, DRGW 3015 ended up being scrapped.
