Remarks & Notes |
It was a clear morning on December 17, 2011 and the California Zephyr has just come to an emergency stop due to two cars (baggage and sleeper) jumping the tracks. From this angle you can see the trucks on the baggage car are off the rail. The crew dismounted to assess the damage and the police and fire authorities were called to the scene. As the train had just emerged from the Denver Yard on its way to Denver Union Station, it was traveling at a fairly slow speed. The Amtrak staff uncoupled and left the two wayward cars in place and the rest of the train headed into Union Station. It finally departed some 3 hours late. The Hulcher teams finally got the two cars re-railed around noon. |
