Remarks & Notes |
The white-hatted foreman is down on his haunches to better scrutinize the progress of tie renewal on eastbound No. 1 Track. Tie-handling machine No. 1041's crew is manipulating some freshly creosoted ties for placement under the old WWII-era PRR 152 lb jointed rail. It's an 11-foot rise from the Chickies Creek bridge in the distance to the now-gone level crossing just behind the photographer. In 2006, the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and Amtrak invested $140 Million in this line from Harrisburg to Philadelphia, raising track speed to 110 mph in some locations; well above the 75 mph 1970s limit. |
