Pennsylvania D10sb 4-4-0 1223 was set aside by the Pennsylvania Railroad as part of its historical collection, which was stored in the roundhouse in Northumberland, Pennsylvania. In 1965, the American was leased from the PRR by the Strasburg Railroad, and began a 24 year career on the Road to Paradise. Here, the 4-4-0 enters the siding at Groffs Grove wearing a Pennsylvania Spacial nameplate. The Pennsylvania Special was renamed Broadway Limited in 1912, when this locomotive was seven years old. In 1989, the 1223 was found to have thin firebox walls, and was returned to the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, who was the benefactor of the PRR historical collection when the Penn central donated it in the 1970’s.
