The 10th december 2016 is the end of a very interesting and dense operation with freight and passenger trains over the Gotthard mountain route! From today the 11th of December, most trains will drive through the 57 km Gotthard Base Tunnel. Here at Wassen, with the impressive loop development around the church, 1 Regional Express per hour and direction remain and during the season, individual further trains as well as the Gotthard Panorama Express.
On one of the longest days of the year in June of this year, I recorded the light trails of trains around Wassen after 22 h in a multiple long-term exposure. At the top of the mountain slope on the right the top level coming from Göschenen, in the foreground and to the right of the village the light trails of the middle level, and to the left of the church the Wattinger curve of the lowest level. In the center of the image, above the church, the light trails of the Gotthard A2 motorway towards Göschenen.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
