North Star and semaphores… Under the watchful gaze of the North Star a pair of near century old Union Switch & Signal upper quadrant semaphores stand a silent guard along BNSF's Raton Subdivision near Colmor, NM. Under the forgiving cover of darkness the old semaphores, joined rail, and wood ties that make the Raton Subdivision a living museum seems to harken back to a near by gone era of railroading, where these were the vanguard of the day. While very little use graces these rails today the old semaphores can still claim to protect Amtrak's Southwest Chief each day, amazing that all these years later they still continue to serve the route of the Chiefs.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
