Making its inaugural run of 2017, Norfolk and Western 611 marches towards Spencer, NC for its annual inspection prior to a busy excursion season. Following the old Virginian route between Roanoke and Hurt, VA before picking up the Southern mainline, the J and its three car train paralleled the Roanoke River for some time, as seen here at the Niagara dam site outside of town.
