Amtrak Train #311 streaks past P-Hill on the UP Sedalia Sub. behind a rare B32-8WH leader. The former Pepsi Cans don't call this territory home very often, and the 500's presence was necessitated by Amtrak running two round trips a day for 2 days between Kansas City and Jefferson City with a bus bridge to St. Louis due to major flooding along the Missouri River between JEF and STL which closed the UP Jefferson City Sub.
#3 set out the 500 in KCY on the night of the 31st and the trains ran push-pull style on the 1st and 2nd until the line was opened back up east of JEF. There is a wye at Jeff City, but the decision was made to run the trains push-pull for more convenient operation.
Having never actually shot an AmBoat leading, even though I've seen it several times, it was nice to finally do so. I do feel sorry for that engineer though. Hopefully he has a good chiropractor and made his appointment for Monday. I can't imagine the Chicago switch engine rode that great at 70 MPH.
