Charging toward Gold Hill. Our V&T Freight is working hard as she emerges from a shallow cut and approaches the Overman Pit, just prior to reaching Gold Hill, NV. After literally running circles on a steady 2.2% grade for the last 10 miles, she'll soon get a short breather as the last few hundred yards from Overman to Gold Hill Station are pretty flat. Unfortunately, her fireman had better not lose focus as the steepest half mile on the entire line lies just beyond Gold Hill. Only after she clears the Yellow Jacket Tunnel can her crew consider the heavy lifting pretty much done.
Landscape photography is difficult due to the challenge of combining good light and good scenery. Good railroad photography enters another level of complexity since it requires the first two while there is a train in view.
