Amtrak's High-Speed Rail Improvement Project shows some progress:
Amtrak's Acela Express roars through Princeton Junction on what is normally the northbound (Amtrak eastbound) express track late in the afternoon in mid-March of 2017, the year the project was expected to be complete. The project will eventually see speeds of up to 160 mph along the stretch of track between New Brunswick, NJ and Trenton. Track 3 to the left was taken out of service while new constant tension catenary supports and wire - visible above the platform canopy - are installed.
Acela (US), TGV (FR), Velaro (Ger, although there are British, Chinese and Russian versions as well)
There are other systems, such as the Japanese Shinkansen.
