The 'Red Devil' rides! On 11th June 1983, Class 26 4-8-4 no.3450 worked the Komatipoort passenger trains from Pretoria as far as Witbank, and return. If I remember correctly, the Railway Society of Southern Africa had two passenger coaches attached to these trains for enthusiasts, behind the loco. On the return trip from Witbank to Pretoria, the winter sun catches 3450 racing along near Wilgerivier.
The nickname 'Red Devil' came about because of the unique colour that this one-off experimental locomotive was painted. For more detailed information, follow this link https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_African_Class_26_4-8-4
