Racing into a searchlight sunset. With the sun having just dipped behind the costal overcast, Amtrak 14 races northbound toward its next stop of Oakland as it thunders past a still-active, ex-Southern Paciifc searchlight signal at the north end of Salinas. The scene comes from the vestibule of the popular private car "Silver Splendor" as it and the "Overland Trail" deadheaded to Portland to be in place for the upcoming Cascades Daylight - to be pulled by none other than SP 4449.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
