DRIR 1083 moves a cut of gondolas along Packinghouse Road in an area known as the Stockyards. In the background is the water tower to the old Armour meat processing plant, which in the 1920's was a main industry in this part of the City. The water tower is slated to be preserved as part of a $1.1Billion dollar renovation of the entire area. Gone will be the many industrial business served by the Denver Rock Island Railroad, demolished in exchange for redevelopment into a new urban village that will include a 10,000-seat arena with restaurant and retail space and ice capability for hockey games, a 350,000 square-foot trade show exposition hall, a 135,000 square-foot Livestock Stadium, a 230,000-square foot Livestock Hall, 200,000 square feet of equestrian facilities, and a water resource center. There wont be much room left for industrial uses that need rail service.
