A Carolina Southern train trundles along the line between Mullins, SC and Chadbourn, NC passing Cerro Gordo. This shortline featured eclectic lashups such as this, moving freight on a minimal budget as many shortlines do. The line succumbed to weakened track conditions, particularly bridges which failed inspection. The owner claimed he did not have the money to fix the bridges, and TIGER grant applications were unsuccessful. The line was dormant for a couple of years, but when all seemed lost, was purchased by RJ Corman and is again operating as their Carolina Lines.
