GN 679 and 680 were the road's only two passenger GP9s and were delivered with boilers, torpedo tube air tanks, and larger than normal water/fuel tanks. They operated in all three of GN's color schemes, and spent most of their time assigned to the Superior-Twin Cities area as back up power for Badger/Gopher passenger trains. They could be seen in the area doing switching, ore transfers, or handling freight traffic as well. This photo was taken after the BN merger, but before re-numbering.
