Leaving Saugus behind Union Pacific's Saugus local hurries west, light power, towards their last customer in Via Princessa to make a pick up. At right another piece of Saugus history stands along the old SP tracks, the Saugus Speedway horse stables. The Speedway first opened in 1927 as a Rodeo Arena and horse racetrack, the first auto races, for which the Speedway is best known, were held at Saugus in 1939. The Speedway closed in 1995 and nearly everything related has since been torn down, except for the old horse stables.
