"The Late Shift." It's closing in on midnight and the Engineer of Strasburg #89 is preparing her to go into the shed. Low on pressure, the engine has to be backed up a quarter mile and then the lines need to be switched. Rain was starting to come down and the crew is ready to get home.
The aspects of this shot were very challenging. ISO 3200, 24mm, f/2,8 at 1/3 second. Not ideal for shooting, and out of about 25 shots, this one was the only one that worked. I had to be still, the driver had to be still. A lot of aspects had to come together.
Still, it works and I love this photo. The high ISO combined with the natural light and period clothing of the engineer make this appear to be straight out of the '40s.
A continuously growing album of photos that IMHO reveal the awesome and seldom-seen beauty of the railroad world from the dimming of day to dawn's early light! From dusk to dawn, trains roll on! (I'm still finding gems of sunset-to-sunrise surprises!)
