Cogwheel steamlocomotive HG 4/4 # 704 of the Dampfbahn Furka Bergstrecke (DFB) in the shed of Realp. Some jobs have to be done before she can heated up the first time since decades. The 0-8-0 was built in 1923 by SLM Winterthur for the Paris-based "Compagnie Génerale de Colonies" and ran in Indochina (now Vietnam). Brought back to Switzerland in 1990 an rebuilt during about 12 years and with 48000 hours work by volunteers in the workshop of Chur (first) and Uzwil (later). The smokebox door is opened, blast pipe and superheater tubes are removed to fix a minor leak behind the head of the superheater. Head of project, Jakob Knöpfel, is currently working on his laptop for the adjustment of the cogwheel gear drive unit. The four cylinder of this compound locomotive (two high pressure for the adhesion drive and two low pressure cylinder above for the cogwheel drive) have the same diameter of 455 mm (17,91 inch), but slightly different piston stroke.
