Newcomer on the Corridor!Led by a brand new ACS-64 "American Cities Sprinter", SEPTA's "Great Valley Flyer" push/pull express commuter train races west past Devon Station in Pennsylvania along Amtrak's Keystone Line, better known by SEPTA patrons as SEPTA's Paoli/Thorndale line. No. 901 is the first of initially 13, now 15 units ordered by the railroad from Siemens. The Sprinters will replace the line's 7 surviving AEM-7's and its sole ALP-44. No. 901 arrived back on December 14, 2017, but extensive testing was required before the first unit was put into operation on July 11th, 2018. Currently, No. 901 is the only unit in regular service but several others are making test runs throughout the transit agency's system.
Devon station seen above was built by the Pennsylvania Railroad back in 1890, replacing an earlier station built in 1883. Sadly, an old baggage shelter, which once stood to the far right, just out of sight, was demolished in 2004. The station building was repainted in 2005 and is in service.
