The Day It Happened
The heavy duty Mammoet owned remote controlled flat bed is being put to the test as it's tow 200+ tons of history down the middle of Charlotte Ave. The special escort is made up of of Nashville Police, members of the Nashville Steam Preservation Society, and various of other contractors. Nashville, Chattanooga & St. Louis Railway 576 J-3 type 4-8-4 "Dixie" is halfway to it's destination for the RJ Corman's Nashville & Western Railway near the Watkins Park Suburbs of Nashville, TN, and it's not every day people would catch a steam locomotive rolling down the middle of the main road. It was a long time coming especially to those who've been fighting "tooth, and nail" both past and present to get the only example of the NC&StL steam out of it's home in Centennial Park and moved to a location to where the locomotive could be save from the elements, to be preserved. Today is that day, a major hurdle has been jump as the locomotive had departed it's home for more than 66 years, and is heading into a bright future. 2019 is the continuing of chapter for 21th century steam in the southeast.
