Remarks & Notes |
Time has run out for this transportation relic inside of 30th Street Station in Philadelphia, PA. The Solari Board has been part of the ambiance of the station since its installation in the 1970s. Installed in an era before the invention of modern LCD departure boards, the Solari Board uses an electro-mechanical slides to display train information which flip with the announcement of new information. The iconic "flip flap" sounds alert passengers of important updates as trains arrive and depart from the station. While the board is certainly a landmark and a distinguishing feature of 30th Street Station, the board has become costly to maintain after nearly 50 years of service. |
