A German Steam Engne In...Fillmore? That's right - for the first time ever in the United States, 1935-built "Buckeye" operated under her own power. Built by the Orenstein & Koppel Locomotive Works in Germany, the Buckeye is a two-foot gauge steam engine (wood & coal burning) that was shipped to Africa where it operated in a mine, forestry operations and during the 1980's giving rides in a park. The locomotive's new and current owner, Peter Nott, shipped the engine from Africa to his private workshop at Norgrove Gardens in Arroyo Grande, Calif. where he spent year refurbishing it to mint condition as seen in this photo.
