Water level on the water level route. The Chicago, IL to New York, NY Amtrak Train 48 (Lake Shore Limited) is rolling down the east bank of the Hudson River on the afternoon of Friday, July 19, 2019 with P32AC-DM 711 (Phase III) in the lead. Its consist of four AmFleet II coaches, a Viewliner II diner used for cafe service, three Viewliner sleepers, and a Viewliner II baggage car provides a variety of accommodation across the route. An AmFleet II car holding the markers appears to be simply catching a deadhead move on the ride since passengers are not permitted to pass through a baggage car. This train continues the New York to Chicago heritage of predecessor railroads New York Central and Penn Central that fiercely competed with others, but chiefly the Pennsylvania Railroad for quality, comfort and speed of travel between these two popular destinations.
