On a humid July morning, CSX crews work on the unfortunate removal of IU Tower in Downtown Indianapolis. Built in the 1930's as part of Indianapolis Union Station modenization project, IU tower had many unique things about it. The tower itself contained a 130-lever US&S Model 14 interlocking machine which controlled a vast amount slow speed double-slip switches and dwarf signals. Additionally unlike Cincinnati's comparable terminal, Indianapolis also served as a junction for through trains for NYC, B&O, PRR, & Monon Railroads.
