Tower(s)ing over the Hudson. On, Wednesday, January 16, 2019, Amtrak 235 (P32AC-DM 711, Phase III leading) makes its way up the frozen banks of a cold Hudson River near Scarborough, NY. In the background, the new Tappan Zee Bridge stands tall, while the eastern tower of the old Tappan Zee Bridge sits in the water. The day before on January 15, 2019, a synchronized explosion took the tower down, other methods having been investigated and rejected by the construction company to not endanger the integrity of the new bridge. In the subsequent months, the tower has been mostly disassembled and carried away by ships.
