Waiting on the evening freight. In the early evening light, a motorist waits patiently in his Ford Model A, as a local freight passes through a rural crossing with its whistle blaring. Our freight this evening is headed up by Tremont & Gulf #30, a 2-8-2 Mikado Type that was built in 1917 and served the Louisiana-based short line for nearly 40 years. She later had a second career with the Magma Arizona Railroad, serving the copper mines in Arizona, before returning to the south central states, where she now hauls tourists on the Texas State Railroad. This particular image was taken at Dean Wright Crossing, on County Road 386, just east of Palestine, TX.
