BN 9850, a former GN SDP40, finds new work for new owner BN at Minneapolis on a drizzly spring day in 1973. Snatched from passenger service with the advent of Amtrak in 1971, the SDP40s served in freight service for BN and even BNSF. Today one continues in service on Montana Rail Link and one is preserved in operating condition in St. Paul by the Minnesota Transportation Museum. Not bad for a locomtive group that amounted to only 6 units for US service, plus a handful for NdeM in Mexico.
