An unexpected move brought Conrail’s only two SD7’s to the Allentown area. These ex-PRR EMD’s, which had added weight, were purchased specifically for the 5.89% Madison Hill line in Indiana. They spent their entire careers there, until being moved to Pennsylvania. In what I believe to be my first encounter with one of the newcomers, 6999 idles at the Bethlehem roundhouse with two ex-Lehigh Valley SW8’s on a January, 1979 evening.
