EMD G22CU # 94 of the Ferronor, built in 1971 for the Codelco, is pulling 9 empty sulfuric acid tank cars from Llanta up to Potrerrilos, in the steep slope on a grade of about 3.0 %. Sadly, lower parts of this spectacular railroad were destroyed by heavy floods in march 2015 and the line is closed since then. When you look on Google Earth nowadays, only very few remains of the right of way are visible. The line was part of the Diego de Almagro division of the Ferronor, built starting in 1916 by the Andes Copper Mining Company to connect the Potrerillos copper mine and smelter with Pueblo Hundido (now called Diego de Almagro), where it connected to the state railway network, which continued to Chañaral.
