In recent years, Pan Am's acquisition of ex CSX GE locomotives and their subsequent patching of the CSX logos has lead to many colorful and somewhat garish looking locomotives running on the rails of the former Boston & Maine and Maine Central Railroads. In this case MEC 7489, an ex CSX/Conrail C40-8, leads train AY1 past the searchlight signals at CPF AY as it heads out of Ayer bound for the Old Ford Yard down near the Willows east of town. What looks like a short double stack train, is in reality a new trash business. These former domestic containers will be unloaded from the well cars, loaded with trash, stacked back into the well cars and transported to a landfill down south.
