"Thermite Welding at Farmingdale"
A Long Island Rail Road track gang thermite welds new rail at the Secatogue Ave grade crossing on Main Line 1. Thermite welding is the process of igniting a mix of high energy materials, (also called thermite), that produce a molten metal that is poured between the working pieces of metal to form a welded joint.
Welding the rail joints creates a smoother ride for passengers and a quieter atmosphere for the residents of the surrounding area. |
