The heavy 800 horsepower 0-8-0 T cogwheel steamlocomotive HG 4/4 # 704, built by the SLM Winterthur in 1923 for Indochina (today Vietnam) and deliverd to the "Compagnie Génerale de Colonies Paris", is pulling train 133 of the Dampfbahn Furka Bergstrecke (DFB) from Realp over the Furka pass to Oberwald, running on the maximum 3.5 % adhesion grade through the gorge of the Furkareuss between Realp and Tiefenbach. A few hundred meter further up, the cogwheel section with up to 11.0 % grade will start. The excellent welsh coal is producing hardly no smoke. At the coal bunker is the VHX (Vietnam Hoa Xa) emblem placed, which is not appropriate to the appearance which shows more or less the delivery sight. This emblem had the locomotive when running in Vietnam after 1947. There were hard discussion, if this emblem should be placed at the locomotive or not. The # 704 was brought back from Vietnam to Switzerland in 1990 more or less as scrap and is operational again in excellent condition after a large revision from 2006 to 2018 in Chur and Uzwil. The locomotive never ran before in Switzerland and needed an admission from the federal office of transport (BAV) like a new built cogwheel vehicle of today.
