Making The Warbonnet Wait. As the sun begins to set, this evening's BNSF San Bernardino dispatcher has elected to hold the H BARWAT at Basta for a plethora of east and westbound passenger and freight traffic. On the point of the BARWAT is the BNSF 4718, a 1997-built C44-9W that still wears its original, BNSF-version of the Santa Fe Railway's famed "Warbonnet" paint scheme that was reborn in the 1990's prior to the merger with the Burlington Northern in 1996. One of the trains the 4718 west is waiting for, the BNSF 4200 east, is seen here pounding the crossover switches as Basta as it races toward Fullerton running hot on the heels of tonight's eastbound Southwest Chief, train No. 4.
