The Oldest Active NYC Subway Diesel. Built in 1965, the first new two-truck diesels that were purchased for present day NYC Transit Subway were General Electric R-37s 50-53. The need had grown for more non-revenue power, and today the roster includes a substantial number of diesel engines that are used for work trains. On Thursday, November, 5, 2020, GE R-37 (45T) 050 sits at the South Brooklyn Railway Yard (Division C) at the 39th Street Yard in Brooklyn, New York during a special move. The Freedom Tower in the background complements the scene.
