Moving goods through the heartland. A farmer checking his mailbox pauses to observe the passage of a Nickel Plate freight as it heads west, hauling the goods that drive the American economy through the heartland of the mid-west.
Of course, this is Nickel Plate #765, one of two surviving Lima Berkshire Locomotives that is still capable of operating. She's performing for a group of photographers on an August, 2009 Lerro Productions Photo Charter and she's captured here just outside Owosso, MI, at the King Road Crossing, on the Great Lakes Central Railroad. Nickel Plate #765 is owned and operated by the Ft. Wayne Railroad Historical Society, which is headquartered in Ft. Wayne, IN, right in the heart of the 765's old stomping ground, back in the day.
